Event Image
Carving the Divine is a documentary that offers a rare look into a 1,400-year-old Buddhist wood-carving tradition and the practitioners struggling to preserve its legacy in a rapidly changing Japan.
RIT's illustration program presents a screening of the film at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Webb Auditorium (Booth Hall, 1350). Carving the Divine was directed by Yujiro Seki, who will lead a Zoom Q-and-A with the audience following the screening.
The documentary has been selected to 29 film festivals across 22 countries. It has won awards at 12 festivals, including Best Director Award of a Foreign Language Documentary at World Cinema Milan and premiering at the famous Raindance Film Festival in London.
