Groundbreaking Mixed Reality Technology and Innovation in Medicine

Dr. Doolittle is Professor and Senior Associate Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Technology at RIT and is recognized for his work on a range of pedagogical methodologies (distance learning, blended learning, and evidence-based, problem-solving/case study based models) across a number of biomedical science disciplines (anatomy, pathology, and neuroscience). He earned an M.S. and dual-program Ph.D. from the Departments of Anatomy and Pathology from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and arrived at RIT in 1986. Over the course of time, Dr. Doolittle has created >12 new courses within the curriculum and has continued his research in the construct of virtual reality systems for educational, clinical, and engineering applications based on his background in pathology and the anatomical sciences. To complement the student experience, he created the CHST Simulation Laboratory where he oversees training exercises for students in the PA and Nutrition/Dietetics programs. This facility also supports his work in AR/VR application development to bring the static mannequin to life.
Additionally, he has worked with administrators and faculty of RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf to create a “center of excellence” in the preparation and training of D/HH students for careers in health care. He has been engaged in NIH-funded pipeline training programs (“Bridges to the Baccalaureate” and “RISE”) and most recently secured a K12 NIH grant as Co-PI with Steve Dewhurst at URMC designed to prepare D/HH postdoctoral fellows for success in academic research careers.
He has also received the following prestigious awards:
Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching; Innovative Teaching and Technology Award; HEOP (Higher Education Opportunity Program) Community Award (Diversity award); and Changing Hearts and Minds Award for Leadership in Diversity Initiatives
