College of Science
Getting Ready for the Solar Eclipse

Dr. Michael Richmond

Professor, School of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract
:

On Monday, April 8, 2024, around 3:20 PM, the Moon will pass in front of the Sun as seen from Rochester, NY. Everyone in the area will (if the weather permits) have a chance to view one of the most spectacular natural events: a total solar eclipse. What will we see? How long will it last? How can we watch it safely? Are there any aspects to the eclipse that require preparation? Ask these – and all your own – questions to our team of faculty and students from the RIT astrophysical sciences and technology (AST) program.
