The QueerSci Talks is a speaker series created by COSLISC meant to highlight queer excellence in STEM and the importance of queer identity in both academia and industry. Food and beverages will be provided.
Speaker Bio: Lauren’s current research investigates the patterns and processes of evolution in spiders, scorpions, with a focus on tropical islands. Originally from the US-Mexico borderlands, she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at El Paso, and went on to obtain an MS and PhD from the American Museum of Natural History in collaboration with the City University of New York. Lauren is the co-founder/director of a science, education, and conservation non-profit called Islands & Seas, and the founder of 500 Queer Scientists, a visibility campaign for LGBTQ+ people working in STEM careers.
About COSLISC: The College of Science LGBTQ+ Inclusivity in Science Club (COSLISC) is a group of students dedicated to working with the College of Science to create and promote queer inclusivity efforts for students in order to create a more supportive and comfortable environment for young queer scientists.
