Deaf Hub Exploring Perspectives: Biomedical Science features alum Michelle Koplitz ‘08, MHS where she will be discussing her presentation, “Bridging Research to Policy in EHDI as a Deaf Public Health Professional” on Friday, April 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Student Development Center 1300/1310.
Michelle is a fourth-year Translational Biomedical Sciences PhD trainee at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Her research focuses on how the deficit-based model of deafness employed by Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) systems impacts the developmental trajectory and associated long-term health outcomes in deaf and hard-of-hearing populations. Prior to her doctoral work, Michelle spent 10 years in federal service as a project officer for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s EHDI program in the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.
