Topic: Social Networks and Finance
Abstract: Prof. Lin Peng will discuss her latest research on social networks and finance, referencing two papers: "News Diffusion in Social Networks and Stock Market Reactions" and "Wisdom or Whims? Decoding Investor Trading Strategies with Large Language Models." These studies utilize social network data from Facebook and a prominent investor social media platform, alongside financial data, to examine the role of social networks in financial markets. Employing big data, machine learning techniques, and large language models, these studies investigate the influence of social news transmission on investor beliefs and securities markets, as well as investor strategies and interactions among market participants in the era of social media and AI-powered trading.
