FreezeFest: Black Heritage Month Kickoff: Wear Your Crown!

We invite the entire campus to participate in our kickoff event to celebrate and acknowledge the history of Black hair. Black-identified staff, faculty, and students are encouraged to show up wearing your crown or modeling your hair in a way that showcases your personality and/or unique ethnic group styles.

The setup is interactive and allows for you to stop by at your leisure. There will be stations set up that will encourage you to learn how to braid, provide you with an opportunity to purchase Black-owned hair and skin products, as well give you an opportunity to share your own hair journey no matter your racial, ethnic or gender background.

We will also have a place for people to process the trauma related to their hairstyle choices. About half way into the program there will be a screening of an episode from Hulu's The Hair Tales. Finally, the Wallace Library staff will be present to capture personal stories for our university archive.

FreezeFest is a week-long celebration of winter at RIT, featuring a variety of on- and off-campus activities. For a complete list of events, visit rit.edu/FreezeFest. #RITFreezeFest
