Goudy Award Presentation and Lecture
Louise Fili, accomplished designer, art director and author, is the recipient of RIT's 2021 Frederick W. Goudy Award for Excellence in Typography. She is being presented with the award during a public virtual ceremony hosted by RIT’s School of Design from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 30.

The Goudy Award is given to an outstanding practitioner in type design and its related fields. It is dedicated to the continued progress of the field in the spirit of the great practitioners of the past.
About Louise Fili
Fili worked as a senior designer for Herb Lubalin and for 11 years was art director of Pantheon Books, where she designed close to 2,000 book jackets. In 1989, she opened Louise Fili Ltd., a design studio specializing in food, type and all things Italian. Fili is the author of Elegantissima, Grafica della Strada, Graphique de la Rue, Gràfica de les Rambles, The Cognoscenti's Guide to Florence and Italianissimo, and co-author (with Steven Heller) of over 25 books on graphic design.
A member of the Art Directors Hall of Fame, she has also received medals for Lifetime Achievement from the AIGA and the Type Directors Club. She has taught design and typography at School of Visual Arts in New York and Rome for over 30 years, and has designed the typefaces Mardell, Montecatini and Marseille.
