Lecture: Furniture Designer Yuri Kobayashi
Yuri Kobayashi, a nationally exhibiting furniture maker and sculptor, is visiting RIT for a public lecture set for 7:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in Carlson Auditorium (room 1125 in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science). Interpreting services can be requested through myaccess.rit.edu.
Born in Japan and now based in Camden, Maine, Kobayashi strives to capture her wonder and emotional nature in objects, from abstract sculptures to functional pieces of furniture. She has been awarded competitive residencies, grants and fellowships, including Windgate artist-in-residences at SUNY Purchase, the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the Arizona State University Art Museum.
The lecture is presented in collaboration between RIT Furniture Design and the Rochester Woodworkers Society. The event is made possible with support from the Furniture Design program’s Beth and Ira Nash Scholarship and Visiting Artist Endowed Fund in memory of David Weinstein.
