The QueerSci Talks
Rene Francolini
PhD Candidate in Laboratory for Ocean Sciences
University of Maine
The QueerSci Talks is a speaker series created by COSLISC meant to highlight queer excellence in STEM and the importance of queer identity in both academia and industry.
Speaker Bio:
Rene's work focuses on the genetics of the wild kelp beds along the coast of Maine and how they are responding to stressors brought on by climate change. Her research exists at the intersection of field work, molecular work, and computational analysis, and focuses on addressing questions that are highly applicable to the community of individuals who rely on our waterfronts for their livelihood. As a queer/bi identifying woman, Rene is also passionate about representation in science through outreach and science communication – she regularly participates in Skype A Scientist and is a Girls Who Code instructor. Outside of science, Rene is an avid baker, musician, nature admirer, food enthusiast, and novice gardener.
About COSLISC:
