Reception: Co-Crafting Democracy Exhibit
We invite you to the reception for the exhibition Co-Crafting Democracy: Fiber Arts and Activism now entering its third show concept, at University Gallery on the RIT campus. The exhibit is curated by Juilee Decker and Hinda Mandell.
Curated from submissions, the exhibit offers a poignant opportunity to consider the intersecting roles of timing, audience, and self-expression with major national events in the life cycle of politically engaged craftmaking and display. Makers were asked to respond to the following prompt in their work and their accompanying text: What role can you play in “co-crafting democracy” leading up to, and following, the 2024 U.S. presidential election?
Join Drs. Juilee Decker, Hinda Mandell, and Taj Smith for a welcome reception, walk-through, and discussion. The maker table will be open, with supplies and space for attendees to make their own work and to process their thoughts about democracy after the U.S. election cycle in November 2024.
The exhibition is being developed in collaboration and with the support of RIT’s Division of Diversity and Inclusion, the Museum Studies Program, and the School of Communication.
