Eyasu Hailu Tamene, Ph.D., is a 2021 Fulbright African Scholar from Ethiopia, with a background in linguistics. In 2005, he worked for the Ethiopian National Association of the Deaf (ENAD) as a lexicographer/ linguist, giving him an opportunity to learn sign language, work with Deaf people and make social acquaintances.
He is one of the founders of Africa’s first bachelor’s degree program in Ethiopian Sign Language and Deaf Culture at Addis Ababa University. His dissertation “The Sociolinguistics of Ethiopian Sign Language: A Study of Language Use and Attitude” was published by Gallaudet University Press, is available through Amazon.
