World of Wonder in Science series welcomes Dr. Elaine Smolock presenting "A Scenic Drive on the Research Education Road"

Dr. Smolock will share her experiences of entering into and navigating academia. Dr. Smolock began her career as a research scientist, with a focus on cardiovascular health, pursing a conventional academic basic science research track. Her transition to a focus on research education and program leadership has allowed her to engage in a non-conventional academic role that involves meaningful mentorship, scholarship and academic exploration. Dr. Smolock will discuss motivations for her career transition and how her interactions with students. postdocs, and faculty shaped her goals of working in education and diversity initiatives.
