Wegmans Theater

The Wegmans Theater was built to be and is intended to be utilized as a film and media screening facility for RIT and the Rochester community; it is the only one of its kind on campus. Reservations for this space are prioritized based on this need, coupled with activity that is related to MAGIC Spell Studios mission of digital media research, production and exhibition. The theater along with all spaces at MAGIC Spell Studios are designated as classrooms first, with all other reservations accommodated around the classroom schedule, which varies from semester to semester. 

The Wegmans Theater is home to several events including: the MAGIC Speaker Series, game playtest events as well as original work from the School of Film and Animation.  SOFA Screenings is a celebration and public exhibition of finished film and animation projects produced each semester by the over 400 members of the SOFA student body.  This multi day event is open to the RIT and Rochester communities during final exam weeks in the fall and spring.

The Wegmans Theater also serves as a stage for the RIT Esports Team to host large in-person events. The theater has been home to many of the team’s events, including the Counter-Strike 2 inter-collegiate LAN tournament and Call of Duty RIT Esports team versus Public Safety event.

The Wegmans Theater is equipped with a DCI compliant Christie CP4325 4K RGB laser projection system and is Dolby Atmos certified with 58 speakers. Content can be operated using an HDMI plugin at the front podium or through DCP playback.
