    Jazz orchestra pays tribute to Shakespeare

    Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s “Such Sweet Thunder,” music inspired by sonnets, characters and characterizations from William Shakespeare, will be performed by the New Energy Jazz Orchestra on Friday at RIT, part of the yearlong commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

    Janine Burge, who is studying psychology and urban studies in RIT’s School of Individualized Study and sociology and anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts, has been selected as a 2016-17 Gandhi Institute Service Fellow at the Rochester-based M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence.

    Stanley McKenzie, RIT provost emeritus and former vice president for Academic Affairs, died Nov. 8 in Tucson, Ariz. McKenzie served for 41 years in several roles at RIT until his retirement in 2011.
