Common household items have historical value, even the board games collecting dust in the closet. Allie Cervantes, a fourth-year graphic design student with a museum studies minor, helped bring some of America’s favorite board games out of the dust and into the spotlight at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester.

Finding love on Zoom sounds like a pitch for a romantic comedy, but it’s reality for two alumni who began their relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new student agency called Technically Speaking is providing a valuable opportunity for RIT students to get first-hand experience in marketing and public relations. The group’s first major client was RIT’s Division of Marketing and Communications, and one of their projects was to capture the behind-the-scenes work of students getting ready for Imagine RIT.

Accomplished alumni are returning to campus to discuss the future of technology, the arts, and design as part of the Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival on April 29.

Artificial intelligence, robots, glass blowing, drones, cybersecurity tours, and performing arts are just a sampling of what lies in store for the thousands of visitors expected at this year’s Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.

RIT Press has added new titles to its two signature monograph series on comics studies and the Arts and Crafts movement: Romanticism in Comics: Faith, Myth, and Mood and The Splendid Disarray of Beauty: The Boys, the Tiles, the Joy of Cathedral Oaks—A study in the Arts and Crafts Community.

During the 15 weeks between spring and fall semester, RIT students are finding ways to embrace new challenges. Some are taking the stage and performing. Others are winning club championships. For many, summer is a time to get work experience and participate in research projects, traveling abroad, and helping others while pursuing their passions.

Thirty-two students from a variety of majors used their design-thinking skills to solve hiring and retention challenges faced by local nonprofit CP Rochester.

The graphic design program held a week of programming aimed at delivering new skills and career preparation advice and strategies.

RIT's College of Art and Design faculty, along with those at 25 other top art and design schools, reviewed students' portfolios as they prepared their artwork for the college admissions process.

Associate Professor Mitch Goldstein is an educator, graphic designer, and a writer with a forthcoming book. Furniture design can now also be added to the list of his many talents.

As the School of Design's second Melbert B. Cary Professor in Graphic Arts, Mark Kingsley '84 (graphic design) aims to widen how his students think about design.
