Ambassador of the Republic of Mali visits RIT

Ambassador Sekou Berthe of the Republic of Mali, center, visited the RIT campus on Tuesday, Oct. 4. James Myers, associate provost for international education and global programs, right, led Ambassador Berthe well as nine young people from Mali on a tour of MAGIC Spell Studios.

The RIT community welcomed His Excellency Sekou Berthe, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mali to the United States of America, during a visit on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Ambassador Berthe met with RIT President David Munson and toured facilities including the ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute and MAGIC Spell Studios.

Ambassador Berthe was joined by nine young people from Mali selected to participate in a program funded by the U.S. Department of State. The Malian youth got a firsthand look at the creativity and innovation that takes place at RIT each day across campus. After touring MAGIC Spell Studios, they had the opportunity to playtest a video game developed by faculty and students set to be launched on the Nintendo Switch platform.
