Bailey and Glenn named to new faculty associate positions
In an effort to establish a mentoring and support network for faculty, the provost recently appointed professors Margaret Bailey and Chance Glenn as faculty associates for female faculty and AALANA faculty, respectively. Both Bailey and Glenn assumed the new roles in January, and each brings a strong background of scholarship in their respective disciplines, as well as advocacy in areas of diversity and inclusion.
The position will be a complementary role to Bailey’s current research through the National Science Foundation institutional transformation grant called EFFORT @RIT. The grant is a three-year study through which she and several faculty and staff members have begun to understand best practices in retaining and advancing faculty.
Bailey is the founding executive director of WE@RIT and co-chairs the President’s Commission on Women, a campus organization charged with increasing the representation of women undergraduate students and improving recruitment, retention and advancement of women faculty.
Glenn is associate dean of graduate studies. He is also a full professor in the College of Applied Science and Technology and serves as director of the William G. McGowan Center for Telecommunications Innovation and Collaborative Research. His research focuses on digital signal processing, communications and radio frequency and digital multimedia. Glenn is a founding editor of The Journal of Applied Science and Engineering Technology, published by the RIT Press.
“Chance and I will be looking at mentoring programs, possibly piloting to a small subset of faculty with the intent to eventually scale to all faculty,” says Bailey.
Adds Glenn: “I hope to be able to work together with my colleagues to develop solutions to the challenges that we face in building a community that cherishes and sustains diversity. I am looking forward to working together with Margaret. We both realize that a viable, meaningful mentoring strategy is a key component to what we want to accomplish here.”
