Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour Stops at RIT Feb. 19-21
Film collection features stories of action sports, wild landscapes and remote cultures
The world-renowned Banff Mountain Film Festival is known best for drawing in its audiences with imagery of awe-inspiring landscapes, exotic locations, and high-octane adventure. Rochester-area filmgoers will soon be able to see it all. Rochester Institute of Technology has been named as one of the stops of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour.
This year’s tour, which showcases a selection of award-winning films and audience favorites spotlighting landscapes, cultures, action sports, and exploration of mountain regions, will be shown at 7 p.m. Feb. 19-20 in RIT’s Webb Auditorium, and Feb. 21 in Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union. Nearly 300 films were entered in the film festival in Banff, and this year’s tour will travel to 285 communities and 30 countries across the globe.
“Experiencing this event is like a dream-vacation medley that has been distilled down and concentrated into two-and-a-half hours,” says Tom Connolly, program director of RIT’s Interactive Adventures. “One moment your palms are sweaty from fear and exhilaration; another moment you are swaddled in the serenity of sublime nature-scapes; and, another moment you are sharing in a glorious conquest, an epic adventure, or a heartbreaking failure. But here, you can wear jeans and a T-shirt and it costs less than a meal out.”
Advance tickets can be purchased at RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center box office, or call 585-475-4121 to charge by phone. Tickets can also be purchased using Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.
