RIT kicked off the semester with a SHED open house on Jan. 18 and an invitation to explore RIT’s biggest creative hub. Here, RIT President David Munson welcomes the community to the new center of campus that combines makerspaces, performing arts spaces, and classrooms designed for active learning.

Competitive performance teams shared their excitement about moving into the SHED’s A-level. This marks the first official home on campus for Launch Initiative, an award-winning rocket club, said Wynter Petersen, club president and fourth-year physics major from Los Gatos, Calif. “Being here right next to all the things we can build our rockets with is a big morale boost,” Peterson said.

Soldering is an important maker skill, and the SHED open house included a workshop for anyone interested in learning how to do it. Here, Ingrid Rossetti, a second-year computer science major from Brookfield, Mass., learns the basic techniques.
