Campus-wide Scavenger Hunt at RIT Promotes Autism Awareness April 14
Alpha Xi Delta fraternity hosts ‘AmaXIng Challenge: Xi Marks the Spot’
In observance of Autism Awareness Month, Rochester Institute of Technology students and faculty, as well as the Rochester community, will have a chance to raise awareness for families who are touched by the autism spectrum.
RIT’s Alpha Xi Delta fraternity is hosting a campus-wide “search and find” event to help raise awareness, acceptance and funds in support of Autism Speaks and Autism Self Advocacy Network.
“The event is a great opportunity for our house to reach out to the autistic community here in Rochester,” says Sally-Rose Cragin, philanthropy chair. “Our goal is to do something fun and generate acceptance for those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders at the same time.”
The event will feature six stations set up at different places across campus, including Global Village, the tiger statue, Java Wally’s and the Greek Lawn. At each station, participants must accomplish an assigned task, including a game of charades, trivia, three-legged race, water balloon toss and hula-hoop contest. The event will end with a barbecue on the lawn behind Grace Watson Hall.
The cost to participate in “Xi Marks the Spot” is $15 for a team of five people or $3 per individual. For more information or to register for the event, contact Sally-Rose Cragin at src2776@rit.edu. Event information can also be found at the Xi Marks the Spot Facebook page.
