RIT’s Proof of Purchase, a co-ed a cappella group, and other a cappella groups will perform Nov. 24 at a fundraiser for Camp Good Days.

Local a cappella groups will raise their voices in song as part of a fundraiser for Camp Good Days at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, in the Webb Auditorium, located in James E. Booth Hall at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The event is open to the general public. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased on campus at the RIT Student Alumni Union at lunchtime during the week of Nov. 18, and at the door the evening of the show.

Ensembles performing are all well-known local groups including Proof of Purchase, Surround Sound and the Brick City Singers from RIT; the Yellow Jackets and After Hours from the University of Rochester; and Cut-Off, a professional group from the Rochester area.

The event is part of an engineering class in project management, says Kelly Stover, a fifth-year industrial and systems engineering student, and project organizer. Stover is also a member of RIT’s Proof of Purchase, a co-ed a cappella group, and mixed a personal interest with a class assignment.

“A large event like this really requires organizational and managerial skills. We’ve used many tools learned in class to aid in the planning of this event,” says Stover. “Earlier in the year, our group had been talking about wanting to be a part of more charity events, so it seemed like a good match.”

Completing the match, one of Stover’s team members, Anthony DeLeo, suggested Camp Good Days. He had recently completed volunteer work with the local nonprofit organization that serves children and families dealing with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. He also invited James McCauly, one of the program coordinators at Camp Good Days, who will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

The musical occasion and goodwill for the nonprofit organization also has a course component. The students have been tracking progress of preparations and must complete a presentation about results, says Stover. She and DeLeo have been working with classmates Tyler Brent, Michael Coffey, Gregory Hyde, Steve Hogan and Brandon Strangman.
