Dancers at RIT to raise money for victims of domestic violence

A 12-hour Dance-A-Thon is being held at Rochester Institute of Technology on Oct. 1 to help raise money for victims of domestic abuse.

The Dance-A-Thon, sponsored by RIT’s College Activities Board, will begin at 6 p.m. in Clark Gym. Dancers will be urged to keep in motion non-stop for 12 hours (bathroom breaks will be allowed).

“Our theme for the dance is ‘movies,’ so students can sign up to be a part of the costume contest and competition to win prizes,” said Angelena Russo, the CAB director.

T-shirts will be for sale, or free to participants who raise $100 or more in pledges. There will also be prizes for dance-off competitions and karaoke contests.

“They’ll have to keep dancing while they sing,” Russo said. Dance clubs will also be teaching participants steps during the event.

The cost is $10 per dancer; register online. Deadline for advanced online registration is Sept. 30; registration at the door will $15. Dinner and breakfast will be provided.

Proceeds will benefit Willow Domestic Violence Center, previously known as Alternatives for Battered Women.
