Working with Formula, Indy, Le Mans and NASCAR racing teams must be a mechanical engineer’s dream.

Lynn Bishop ’93 will talk about his work with these top racing organizations and the motorsport technology he helped develop at the next Kate Gleason College of Engineering Dean’s Alumni Speaker Series presentation at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Xerox Auditorium in RIT’s James Gleason Hall.

Bishop will discuss “Performance Engineering and Rapid Technology Insertion: Lessons Learned from the Racing Industry.” The vice president of engineering services at Pratt & Miller Engineering brings a wide variety of experiences driving a racecar and improving the dynamic systems under the hood of some of the industry’s fastest cars. The event is free and open to the campus community.

As an undergraduate, Bishop was part of the Baja, SPIRIT Sunrayce and Formula SAE race teams. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from RIT and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He worked with Ford Motor Co. in its advanced vehicle technology department, and later with mechanical dynamics, in the area of motorsport simulation tools and methods. In 2000, he and his partner formed Aletheon Technologies to provide engineering consulting services to motorsports and auto industries until it was purchased two years later by Pratt & Miller. His roles with the company varied, from race engineer on the Corvette American Le Mans Series team, to chief engineer of the Cadillac World Challenge and Grand American Road Racing programs, garnering five major championships along the way.
