Diverse scholars invited to apply for RIT’s Future Faculty Career Exploration Program
The fall program offers prospective faculty an opportunity to explore careers at RIT
Historically underrepresented minority scholars are invited to apply for an innovative career development program this fall to experience life as a Rochester Institute of Technology faculty member.
RIT’s annual Future Faculty Career Exploration Program is accepting applications from diverse scholars nearing the end of their doctoral or MFA studies, as well as postdocs and junior faculty.
Throughout the four-day event Sept. 25-28, participants present their scholarly work and meet with deans, faculty and students. Attendees practice interviewing techniques and receive feedback in formal and informal settings. The event also includes presentations and discussions about the university’s research and career development initiatives, tours of RIT’s colleges and laboratory facilities and time to explore the greater Rochester region.
“We are always pleased to invite talented and accomplished scholars to RIT in an effort to network, build new relationships, and examine intersections of interest,” said Keith Jenkins, RIT’s vice president and associate provost for Diversity and Inclusion. “Such relationship-building in academia is vital to creating opportunities to attract some of the best and brightest. We hope participants leave knowing that RIT is a place where their gifts can be embraced and propelled to the next level.”
Now in its 16th year, the program has welcomed more than 330 participants to campus since its inception. In that time, RIT has hired 22 program participants for faculty positions, including two this past year.
RIT was recently honored nationally for its impact on diversity and inclusion by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, which named RIT a Diversity Champion for the fifth consecutive year.
Applications for the Future Faculty Career Exploration Program are due May 15. Scholars can apply at https://www.rit.edu/academicaffairs/facultyrecruitment/future-faculty-programs/future-faculty-career-exploration-program.
