From Dungeons and Dragons to dancing in the SHED—RIT Camp Tiger registration is open
Camp runs July 8 through Aug. 2
Rochester Institute of Technology’s summer day camp—Camp Tiger—offers four weeks of hands-on-learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. New this year is a partnership with Rochester City Ballet that brings dance programs to RIT’s new creative center, the SHED.
Facilitated by RIT’s K-12 University Center, Camp Tiger holds weeklong programs from July 8 through Aug. 2 for third through 12th graders. Separate camp sessions are geared toward primary, middle, and high school students, including three ballet camps—How to Build a Ballet (for sixth through eighth graders), Peter and the Wolf, and Carnival of the Animals (for third through fifth graders).
Other camp offerings include Dungeons and Dragons, RIT School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, LEGO Camp, Games Galore, Next Level Esports, Environmental Sensing with Drones, Photojournalism and Videography, and Bio-art Explorers. Additional programs explore aerospace, cybersecurity, medical science, engineering, making and innovating, architecture, and machining and manufacturing.
Many RIT faculty develop and teach the summer programs and involve RIT students, according to Jane Amstey, senior director of Precollege Programs, RIT K-12 University Center. “We are also excited to bring in talent from the community to offer unique camp programming. Our partnership with Rochester City Ballet is a wonderful example of collaborating with the community and taking advantage of RIT’s new performing arts space in the SHED.”
Camp Tiger will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Morning and evening care options are available for an additional charge. Camp Tiger costs $400 per week and covers project-based instruction, family-style lunch at an RIT dining hall, supervised social interaction, and Camp Tiger T-shirts. Scholarships and free tuition are available. Registration is online.
