Enter Tiger Tank business competition by March 9

RIT competition is now open to all college students and graduates; entry deadline March 9

The rules have changed for Tiger Tank at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Simone Center for Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship has announced the business competition is now open to all college students and graduates—and the winning team will receive a full tuition-based “Tiger Tank Challenge” scholarship to attend graduate studies at RIT’s Saunders College of Business. Second- and third-place winners will receive partial scholarships.

“The partnership between Saunders College and the Simone Center is invaluable to aspiring student entrepreneurs of all disciplines and offers a vital bridge between academic studies and the real world of business,” said Saunders Interim Dean Jacqueline Mozrall. “Similar to the premise of ABC’s Shark Tank, these scholarships represent our ‘investment’ in our students and their futures.”

In past years, more than 50 entries have been submitted to the Tiger Tank competition. Five top teams will be selected to compete for scholarships and nearly $5,000 in cash prizes; the deadline to apply for applicants is 8 a.m. March 9.

“Our business culture is shifting to a more collaborative lifestyle, so we wanted to include students from other colleges in Tiger Tank because there are lessons to be learned from competitors if you are willing to learn, listen and implement,” said Richard DeMartino, endowed chair of the Simone Center and associate professor in Saunders College.

“We are looking at student proposals for their uniqueness, feasibility and ability to impact people. Tiger Tank is a way of building entrepreneurial spirit and helps us find ideas out there that we never knew existed.”
