First Reman Day a Success at GIS

The first Reman Day event at RIT drew over 50 leaders from 25 different companies on Thursday, April 12, 2018. At the center of the event was a panel discussion led by four regional leaders in remanufacturing – Elaine Deacon, Remanufacturing Manager at Pierce Industries (Rochester); John Reese, Director of Human Resources at Alstom (Hornell); Illya Shoykhet, R&D Manager at United Radio (Syracuse); and Gary Sheedy, EVP of Operations at Tecmotiv, Inc. (Niagara Falls). Covering industries from transport and imaging to electronics and defense, each panelist outlined the role of remanufacturing in their own business and where they see trends for future growth of the industry as a whole.

Reman Day 2018 brought key stakeholders into a common forum – from industry veterans whose primary business is remanufacturing, to OEMs and SMEs exploring the business case for the first time. The goal of the RIT event was to find pathways to help the New York remanufacturing industry grow. Reman Day 2018 marked an important step in achieving this goal by providing a means for businesses and technical experts to share experiences, challenges, trends, and advice on how to get started.

The inaugural Reman Day event was part of a new global effort to promote remanufacturing and provide a forum for businesses, policymakers, and researchers to share ideas on the future of industry. Several events took place during Reman Day all over the world, where remanufacturers hosted students, teachers, parents, job seekers, and local communities at open houses, plant tours, and presentations to discuss remanufacturing. The event is expected to continue annually around Earth Day to raise awareness about remanufacturing and its benefits.
