Fram Award recognizes excellence at Imagine RIT

Two exhibition teams are being recognized as the 2017 Fram Award winners for applied critical thinking excellence during the Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival on Saturday, May 6. Each winning team will share $250 Tiger Bucks.

• The Small Group Award goes to Ambio & Critical Thinking, which will be on display in James E. Booth Hall, room 1441. A team of five designers and three developers created a digital platform that breaks distance to help people connect from separated loved ones in a naturally intimate way, leveraging the latest wearable technology.
• The Large Group Award goes to Using Innovations in Technology to Combat Violence (Simulation & Behavioral Health: Meet Avatars/SimMan) which will be on display in the Gordon Field House. Faculty, staff and community industry mentors study violence—how it is escalating and continues to contribute to the burden of disease at a worldwide level.

“The Fram award is an opportunity for us to gather examples and recognize excellence in the process of applied critical thinking at RIT,” said Jennifer Schneider, professor of risk engineering at RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology and the Eugene H. Fram Chair for Applied Critical Thinking through 2018.

“Many times, the best critical thinking results in great learning and examination and builds our professional skill set. It is this active and impactful action we wish to recognize with this award.”

The Eugene H. Fram Chair in Applied Critical Thinking was funded in 2011 by an anonymous RIT alumnus who donated $3 million to honor Fram. A renowned local and national retail expert, Fram is the J. Warren McClure Research Professor Emeritus of Marketing who retired from RIT in 2008 after 51 years of teaching at Saunders College of Business.
