Gallery features work by deaf nature photographer

The work of deaf photographer Jose Saldana, including this image, will be on display at NTID’s Dyer Arts Center through Dec. 3.

The Joseph F. and Helen C. Dyer Arts Center at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf is featuring the photography of accomplished mountain climber Jose Saldana, known for his breathtaking images of the world’s mountain ranges and the people who call them home. “Adventures Around the World” runs through Dec. 3.

Saldana, who attended RIT/NTID, has climbed more than 40 mountains around the world including in the United States, British Columbia, Canada, Argentina, Nepal and Chile. His work has been published in magazines, newspapers and on websites, including National Geographic’s “Your Shot.”

“I love to connect with people, the environment and nature,” he said. “It’s astonishing to be able to capture ever-changing things in nature like weather, mountains, the creatures that climb up the mountains. My favorite times of day to take photos are sunrise and sunset, and some of my best subjects are explorers, climbers, backpackers, runners, and people who have lived through crises.”

The Dyer Arts Center is located in Lyndon Baines Johnson Hall. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturdays, and other times by appointment. For more information, email dyerartscenter@rit.edu.
