Gallery r hosts Print Club of Rochester exhibition

A Woman’s Strength by Honeoye Falls artist John Kosboth

Rochester Institute of Technology’s metro showcase, Gallery r, is hosting The Print Club of Rochester 82nd members exhibition from Oct. 4-26. An artist reception will be held on First Friday Gallery Night from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 4.

This year’s juror, internationally recognized printmaker Phillia Yi, professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, will be selecting four works for best in show awards.

Founded in 1931, The Print Club’s mission is to educate and stimulate an appreciation for fine art prints. Each year, the club commissions a print to be distributed to subscribers, and this year it was created by printmaker Tom Huck, who will be showcasing his woodcuts throughout the October show.

Another exhibitor is John Kosboth of Honeoye Falls, who says he has been doing digital work on Canon and Epson pigment printers for the past 13 years. “My mind and body thinks I am painting (oils) when working up a series of studies… and recently come to understand that the image of the past years are elements waiting to be placed in newer work,” the artist says.

“A Woman's Strength is at the beginning of this series of studies. For me, these images offer visual and emotional hooks through which women have seemed to easily relate their own journey.”

Gallery r, located at 100 College Ave., sits adjacent to Lumiere Photo, home to Spectrum Gallery, and is just a few yards from the Memorial Art Gallery and Village Gate. The gallery space is under the helm of RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences and offers students the same challenges and expectations that confront established artists—focusing on diverse exhibitions, educational opportunities and collaborations with the public, other arts institutions and community groups.

Gallery r is handicapped accessible, features easy street and off-street parking, and is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. All exhibits are free and open to the public. For more information, call Zerbe Sodervick at 585-475-4977.
