Students from Greece Apollo Middle School work with professor Carol Whitlock of the RIT School of International Hospitality and Service Innovation to create chocolate-covered desserts.

Students from Greece Apollo Middle School will learn more about careers in hospitality and optics during the third annual Career Exploration Day May 13 at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The students will alternate between two 45-minute workshops taking place in Henry’s restaurant, in George Eastman Hall, and at the Center for Imaging Science Auditorium in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science. Session I takes place 9:45–10:30 a.m.; Session II follows at 10:45–11:30 a.m. Students will participate in a campus tour and lunch after the workshops.

More than 50 Greece students from Advanced Placement science and math classes are expected for the event hosted by faculty from the School of International Hospitality and Service Leadership, part of the RIT College of Applied Science and Technology, as well as the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, part of the RIT College of Science.

“This program is a wonderful experience for the students. For some, it is their first exposure to a college campus and how amazing it can be,” says Erica Stutz, science teacher at Greece Apollo. “It is also a chance for students to hear more about the different fields and the career options within them.”

The Career Exploration Day was developed through a partnership between Greece Apollo Middle School, RIT and the Monroe County School Business Partnership. The partnership is a service provided to the Greece School District through a cooperative agreement with Monroe #1 BOCES.
