Henrietta Resident Promoted to Chief of Staff
Barrows to advance in Rochester Institute of Technology’s Office of the President
Karen A. Barrows, a longtime Henrietta resident, has been promoted to chief of staff in the office of President William Destler at Rochester Institute of Technology. Barrows has been with the Office of the President since 1998.
During her time in the Office of the President, Barrows earned her Executive MBA from the E. Philip Saunders College of Business at RIT. She serves on the National Technical Institute for the Deaf Administrative Support Technology Seminar Mentoring Committee and the Institute Judicial Appeals Board. Barrows worked at NTID for nine years prior to joining the Office of the President.
In her new position, Barrows will continue to manage the president’s office and serve as a member of the Administrative Council. Additionally, she will take responsibility for the RIT Board of Trustees’ business—including support of the core and sub-committees that are maintained by the board.
“Karen has been very helpful in helping me to get a running start as RIT’s president,” says Destler, who became president in 2007. “She will work to help me achieve my goals and priorities by continuing to advise me. I am happy to provide this very exciting challenge for her.”
Barrows was awarded the Staff Council Excellence in Service Award in 2007 and is the recipient of two NTID National Advisory Group's Excellence in Service Awards.
