Laundry availability system to be debuted at Imagine RIT

Description: It’s always annoying to go to the laundry room only to discover that all of the machines are in use. Ingenious RIT students have developed a system that displays the status of the machines online, so they can determine how much time is left on any machine, or show how busy the laundry rooms are at any given time. The hardware also has the capability to send maintenance requests when the machines malfunction, and can even text message the user when their laundry cycle is completed. Visitors will learn about the development, installation and operation of the system.

Their work has more than $2 million in funding from the National Science Foundation and Knight Foundation.
