Intersession programs available for faculty

The Wallace Center is hosting ‘Destination Intersession’ Jan. 6–24 to give faculty a chance to explore new ideas around teaching, scholarship and their own professional development.

The Wallace Center will be hopping during RIT’s first-ever January intersession with a series of programs designed to give faculty a chance to explore new ideas around teaching, scholarship and their own professional development and growth.

Destination Intersession runs Jan. 6–24, 2014, with a variety of offerings, ranging from “Tea & Talk with the Provost” to sessions on using e-books in the classroom, open access publishing and teaching in a “flipped” classroom.

“For the first time in its 184-year history, RIT will have an intersession,” said Lynn Wild, associate provost for Faculty Career Development and The Wallace Center. “We have collaborated with partners across the university to provide this professional development opportunity—sessions, workshops and presentations to enrich and kindle a new spirit for the coming year. We’re encouraging faculty to attend, to get inspired by fresh ideas that will re-energize their classroom and research activities just in time for spring semester.”

One of the highlights of the program will be the inaugural RIT’s Got Talent: A Faculty Showcase set for Jan. 8. All RIT faculty have been invited to participate, along with faculty from area colleges including University of Rochester, SUNY Geneseo, Monroe Community College and The College at Brockport. “Most presentations are only 15 minutes, plus five minutes for Q&A, so please enjoy as many as you like that will fit in your schedule,” said Wild. All events are free, but registration is required.
