Veterans Upward Bound at RIT will host an information session for local military veterans Friday, Feb. 16 to show how they can prepare for college or trade certification programs to advance their careers.

The Veterans Upward Bound program at RIT will host an information session this week to help local military veterans prepare for college or trade certification programs and advance their careers. The information session takes place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the MOSAIC Center on the second floor of RIT’s Student Alumni Union. The event is free and open to the public.

Veterans Upward Bound, which launched at RIT this fall, is a free program that helps military veterans of all ages navigate the education system, gain access to information about college and career exploration, and improve academic skills needed for entry in the program of their choice, which can be any at university, community college, certificate or trade program.

“We want to ensure veterans have all the support they need to reach their goals, both academically and professionally,” said Rachel Flaherty, director for Veterans Upward Bound at RIT. “We’ll work with veterans in the program every step of the way, as they transition into the program of their choice, connecting them with vital resources to transform their goals into reality.”

The program serves U.S. military veterans from nine counties within a 90-mile radius of Rochester, N.Y., including Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates counties.
