Let’s Make the Rink Pink

Becca Hendrix’s favorite color is green, but this weekend she will be rocking pink along with the rest of Ritter Arena. On Feb. 10 and 11, RIT hockey and Zeta Tau Alpha will come together for the second biennial Make the Rink Pink hockey fundraiser. Hendrix loves that she can make a difference in the community through her sorority while supporting RIT hockey.

Question: Where are you from?
Answer: I’m from Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Q: What brought you to RIT?
A: I like the great engineering and co-op program. It’s also close enough to drive home on the weekends.

Q: What is something that most people wouldn’t know about you when they first meet you?
A: I can be quiet when meeting new people. They would never guess that I am very out spoken and strong willed.

Q: What types of things do you do around campus?
A: I am a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and chair of Make the Rink Pink. I have also been a mentor for Women in Engineering at RIT and I spent a year on the RIT cheerleading team.

Q: How did you get involved with Zeta Tau Alpha?
A: I was somewhat interested in Greek Life when I arrived at RIT. I checked out ZTA’s recruitment events and was hooked!

Q: For those who have never been to Make the Rink Pink, how would you describe it?
A: It has the intensity and spirit of a regular RIT hockey game, but it’s more exciting because everything is pink and it supports breast cancer education and awareness.

Q: Which charities will Make the Rink Pink support?
A: The money will be split 50/50 between the Rochester General Hospital Lipson Cancer Center and the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Last year we raised $21, 248 to fight cancer.

Q: Where do the proceeds come from?
A: Pink hockey jerseys will be auctioned off and pink tiger T-shirts will be sold to benefit the charities. Bidding on the jerseys will end Feb. 13 at noon.

Q: What is new for the games this year?
A: There is a new design for the shirt and we are using a different shade of pink than in 2010.

Q: How can people get the pink T-shirts for the games?
A: If you haven’t already gotten one this week, they will be sold at the women’s and men’s hockey games Feb. 10 and 11. They will also be sold at the tailgate before the women’s game, 5–7 p.m. in the RITZ Sports Zone.
