Management Expert Diane Gayeski Keynotes Technical Communication Conference

The Rochester Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication, in partnership with Rochester Institute of Technology, is hosting the annual Spectrum 2011 conference, Building Better Solutions: A Skills Symposium. The regional communications conference is being held 8 a.m.-6 p.m. April 1 in Louise M. Slaughter Hall on the RIT campus.

Spectrum 2011 is the 52nd annual conference hosted by the chapter and it will feature presenters and vendors from the United States and Canada. The event is open to managers, information architects, instructional designers, technical writers and editors, technical marketing communicators, Web designers, graphic artists and students. Information about registration and fees for member, non-member and student participants is available at the chapter’s website.

Keynote speaker Diane Gayeski, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, will be sharing her insights from more than 25 years of research and consulting on how to reframe communication skills and products as business assets. She is recognized for her work in new management approaches and technologies for organizational communications and learning.

Gayeski is the author of more than 100 articles and 14 books, including Managing Learning and Communication Systems as Business Assets and Managing the Communication Function. Additionally, she has consulted with clients such as General Electric, Kodak, Xerox, Bank of Montreal, the U.S. Navy and Fiat.

Spectrum 2011 offers 16 educational sessions in four tracks: management methodologies, workplace skills, professional development, and tools and technologies. There will be a separate vendor track for product demonstrations and education. Attendees can also visit exhibits by leading technical communication industry vendors and enjoy a luncheon to honor winners of the Chapter Technical Publications Competition Awards.
