Management information systems graduate will stay at RIT’s Saunders College to pursue an MBA

Nick Renzoni, a management information systems (MIS) major and communication minor from Holden, Mass., is following in his grandfather’s footsteps. Like his grandfather and many of his RIT classmates, Renzoni has decided to pursue a master’s degree directly after completing his undergraduate education.

Renzoni is taking advantage of RIT’s accelerated 4+1 MBA program and the RIT Master Plan. He will earn his MBA from Saunders College of Business after only one additional year at RIT, and with a 55 percent tuition reduction. 

“I had been hearing about the 4+1 program since my first year at RIT,” he said. “As my third year came around, I started to seriously consider it. It is, after all, just an extra year. But it’s a big decision. I started talking to admissions staff, my professors, my family, and others to get a variety of perspectives. The stars aligned and I made the decision to stay.”

More than 70 graduating students across RIT’s Henrietta, Croatia, Dubai, Kosovo, and China campuses plan to stay to pursue a graduate degree from Saunders College of Business in 2021.

Renzoni and his cohort will begin their studies this fall within a newly STEM-designated MBA program. The updated program, which was recently approved by New York State’s Education Department, will require students to select three STEM electives to enhance their business education.

Renzoni, who was initially attracted to RIT because of the seamless integration of business and technology within Saunders College, is excited about the change.

“Saunders College was the only business school I looked at that emphasized both fields. The MIS program trained me to be business-minded—to be good at communicating, working with people, and leading a team. But it also taught me the hard tech skills—the analytics, the coding, and the developing. It’s such a beautiful combination of business and technology.”

Renzoni said he feels at home on the RIT campus and is happy to be returning this fall. He found his niche through on-campus clubs and activities.

“I love all the opportunities that are here at RIT. If you have a passion or hobby, even if it’s not related to your major, you can find a club, event, seminar, or activity that relates to it.”

Renzoni is the current president of RIT’s Financial Management Association, and once held the position of president of RIT’s Business Technology Professionals club. He also sits on the Executive Board of Saunders College, and participates in Amateur Radio Club.
