Mary-Beth Cooper Promoted to Senior Vice President of Student Affairs
Administrator heralded for significantly improving student affairs’ operations
Mary-Beth Cooper has been promoted to senior vice president of student affairs at Rochester Institute of Technology, effective immediately, according to a May 11 announcement by RIT President Bill Destler.
Cooper, a Pittsford resident, held the position of vice president for student affairs since arriving at RIT in 2001. Prior to her tenure at RIT, Cooper was associate provost for student services and dean of students at University of Rochester.
“Mary-Beth has continuously improved operations with the student affairs division and has demonstrated her willingness to respond to the RIT’s changing needs,” said Destler. “She is our students’ chief advocate and in that role strives to keep our team focused on our goal to remain student-centered.”
In addition to her responsibilities with student affairs, Cooper has co-led the President’s Commission on Women to improve the campus climate for women and has served as a representative to the Shared Services Committee of the RIT/Rochester General Health System Alliance. She has also been recognized nationally, having earned the Outstanding Contributions to Higher Education Award and The Susan B. Anthony Promise Award from NASPA—Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
RIT’s Division of Student Affairs is the third largest division at the university with 218 full-time employees and an operating budget of $20 million.
