Maya Angelou program at RIT postponed

Monday’s scheduled event will be rescheduled for April

“An Evening With Maya Angelou,” scheduled for Monday, March 25, has been postponed due to poor weather in the Midwest.

Maya Angelou’s scheduled visit to Rochester Institute of Technology on Monday, March 25, is postponed due to poor weather in the nation’s heartland. Winter storm Virgil is moving through the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic this weekend and will delay “An Evening with Maya Angelou” until a date yet to be determined in late April.

RIT’s Division for Diversity & Inclusion and their partners “apologize for any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling of the program for late April,” says spokeswoman Morgan Martins. “We intend to fully honor our obligations to those who registered when planning the new program.” Campus officials plan to contact all registrants as soon as a new date is confirmed.

Guests are asked to please share this information with those that were planning to attend. There will be officials on campus on Monday to redirect those who did not learn of the cancellation. If you are a registered attendee or guest and have any questions, please contact the Office for Diversity & Inclusion at mmmpro@rit.edu, or 585-475-6546.

A poet, artist, educator and advocate, Angelou has published numerous books of autobiographical works, written and produced plays, won three Grammy awards and presented poetry for presidents. In 2011, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, by President Barack Obama.
