Message From President Destler Concerning Retirement of Donald Boyd
To: RIT Community
From: President Bill Destler
Date: Sept. 17, 2010
Subject: Vice President Donald Boyd Retirement
It is with mixed emotions that I announce the upcoming retirement of Vice President for Research Dr. Donald Boyd, effective July 1, 2011.
Don has been at RIT for nearly 13 years managing and supporting RIT’s efforts to establish and grow its sponsored research. Beginning as the President of the former RIT Research Corporation, then becoming RIT’s Associate Provost for Outreach Programs, and finally Vice President for Research, Don has worked hard in support of RIT’s goals to become “first-in-class” in the areas of innovation, research and entrepreneurship. Dr. Boyd’s efforts have been focused on rigorously pursuing grants and contracts in the area of sponsored research with the additional responsibility of nurturing the growth and development of the RIT business incubator, Venture Creations. Don has also served as a great ambassador for the new “Corporate R&D at RIT” program. It is clear that RIT has come a long way on its journey to grow these important areas.
Although Don will be missed, I know you will join me in wishing him the best of luck on his retirement at the end of this academic year. Please reserve Friday, May 13, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the University Gallery on your calendar to attend a reception in Don’s honor and help me thank him for his contributions to the growth of RIT. In the meantime, I will soon be forming a search committee to help me find a suitable replacement. More details will be available soon.
