‘Miracle on Ice’ goaltender Jim Craig to visit RIT

Public can meet the hockey legend to benefit NTID scholarships

Goalie Jim Craig from the gold-winning 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team at Lake Placid will visit RIT/NTID next week.

Jim Craig, the goalie for the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team that won the gold medal in Lake Placid, will visit Rochester Institute of Technology on Oct. 3 for a number of events, some which are open to the public.

A public presentation is scheduled from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Robert F. Panara Theatre in Lyndon Baines Johnson Hall. It is free and open to the public. A variety of items will be available for purchase.

Craig plans to meet with RIT student athletes for breakfast and attend a VIP lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Gordon Field House reception room, which is open to the public. It includes a question-and-answer session and photographs at each table. Lunch tickets are $75, or $500 per table of eight. Deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, Sept. 26. Contact Heather Emerson Jeremy for ticket information.

Proceeds from Craig’s visit will benefit the National Technical Institute for the Deaf Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Named the Top Sports Moment of the 20th Century by Sports Illustrated, the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, made up of amateur and collegiate players, defeated the Soviet Union national team before going on to win gold. The Soviet team had won the gold medal in six of the seven previous Olympic games.

In 2007, Craig founded Gold Medal Strategies, which provided motivational speaking and sales training.
