Mixed-Media Artist to Discuss Southern African-American Roots
Radcliffe Bailey to talk at campus event March 29
Deep southern roots steeped in African-American heritage have always inspired mixed-media artist Radcliffe Bailey. He will be at Rochester Institute of Technology to discuss his journey to find those roots and his life work.
Bailey will lead a discussion at 4 p.m. March 29 in Webb Auditorium, James E. Booth Hall. The event is free but registration is required. Seating is limited.
His work, constructed from found objects, draws on a variety of sources, including historical events and popular culture. His traveling exhibit Memory as a Medicine was featured at the High Museum in Atlanta and has recently opened at the Davis Museum and Cultural Center at Wellesley College in Massachusetts.
“Having an artist of the caliber of Radcliff Bailey lecture in RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences is a great honor and will allow our students to connect with another professional in the field whose work is uniquely expressive and has a presence on the international stage,” says Twyla Cummings, associate dean. “The nature of his work, mixed media art, is very relevant to the current focus on new forms in our School of Art curriculum.”
The event is part of the Paul & Louise Miller Lecture Series in RIT’s School of Print Media.
