Mothers Day Concert at RIT Features Taiwanese Choral Society

The Taiwanese Choral Society of Rochester will perform at 3 p.m. May 9 at Ingle Auditorium in the Student Alumni Union.

Taiwanese-American Heritage Week begins May 9. To showcase the diversity of the culture, the Taiwanese Student Association at Rochester Institute of Technology will present a Mothers Day concert featuring the Taiwanese Choral Society of Rochester.

The event takes place at 3 p.m. May 9 in Ingle Auditorium in the Student Alumni Union. Admission to the concert is $5 for the general public, $3 for RIT students and children. Tickets are available at the door.

The concert features local artists and students from the Eastman School of Music. Selections will be performed in Taiwanese, Mandarin, Hakka, Ruikai and English.

On the program for the evening will be soprano Karen Ho, a quartet performance by the Eastman Taiwanese Society of Music, and a zheng zither performance by Wen-Lan Hsieh. Accompanying the artists is Annie Wang, currently a doctoral student in piano performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music. Tony Lin, a research associate in RIT’s mechanical engineering department will also sing with the group.

Taiwanese delicacies will be served at a reception for concert guests and artists in the Brick City Cafeteria in the Student Alumni Union immediately following the performance.
