Musical trio to perform at RIT concert series

Neave Trio brings ‘bright and radiant’ music to Performing Artists Concert Series

Neave Trio will perform in Ingle Auditorium Oct. 24 as the next installment of RIT’s Performing Artists Concert Series.

In Gaelic, “neave” means bright and radiant—which is precisely how award-winning broadcaster, music critic and columnist Robert Sherman has described the sound of classical music group Neave Trio.

Neave Trio—violinist Anna Willams, cellist Mikhail Veselov and pianist Toni James—will perform as part of Rochester Institute of Technology’s Performing Artists Concert Series at 8 p.m. Oct. 24 in Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union. The program will consist of Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 16 in D Major, Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat Major, Op. 99, and Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 in E Minor, Op. 67.

In 2012, the trio members, who hail from the United States, Scotland and Russia, were named the first-ever Fisch/Axelrod Trio-in-Residence at San Diego State University. They have performed at recitals and festivals in Canada, South America, United Kingdom, Europe and United States, including at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Boston’s Jordan Hall and Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre in Rochester. In addition, the Neave Trio followed in the footsteps of the Beaux Arts Trio as the only other trio to perform at the Apollo Performing Arts Concert Series.

The trio has been featured on several notable radio broadcasts, including WGBH Radio Boston and WQXR in New York City, where they were featured on the “McGraw-Hill Financial Young Artists Showcase.” Neave Trio has also worked with several distinguished artists including Menahem Pressler, Bonnie Hampton, Rachel Barton Pine, Anne Marie McDermott and Carol Rodland, among others.

Seating for the RIT performance is unreserved. Tickets—$5 for students, $15 for faculty/staff/alumni and $20 for general public—are available at the University Arenas Box Office, online at rittickets.com or at the door on performance night. For Visa and Mastercard orders, call 585-475-4121.

The series is presented by RIT’s College of Liberal Arts’ Performing Arts Program. For more information, go to the Neavetrio website or contact Leslie Weber at 585-475-2063.
