Professor Patrick Scanlon, co-founder and former director of RIT’s School of Communication, retires
Professor Patrick Scanlon, co-founder and former director of RIT’s School of Communication in the College of Liberal Arts, has retired after 38 years. Throughout his long and distinguished career, Scanlon taught more than 4,500 students, was the first-ever recipient of the Provost Award for Excellence in Faculty Mentoring, and substantially shaped the trajectory of RIT’s communication program.

Mathematical modeling has been a powerful tool for policymakers grappling with COVID-19 to help predict how targeted actions can impact the rates of infections, minimize the risk of exposures, increase recovery rates, and much more. Fifteen seniors who took the Senior Capstone in Math course this spring put their modeling skills to the test to help officials evaluate past policies and predict future outcomes.

Men's lacrosse defeats Salisbury, 15-14, in double OT to win 2021 NCAA Division III National Championship
RIT senior midfielder Ryan Barnable scored the game-winning goal to lead the Tigers to a 15-14 double-overtime victory over Salisbury in the 2021 NCAA Division III National Championship game May 30 at Rentchler Field in East Hartford, Conn. Senior attackman Quinn Commandant was named the Most Outstanding Player after totaling five goals and two assists in the victory.

Venture Creations company wins $100,000 in New York state Luminate competition
OWL AI, a client company in RIT’s Venture Creations incubator, was a winner in the New York state-funded Luminate NY accelerator program. OWL AI was among 126 applicants from 22 countries that rose to the top, winning a $100,000 prize and entry into Cohort 4 of the program.
