A 2019 documentary by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning director Irene Taylor Brodsky will be screened at NTID this week. Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements, the story of Brodsky’s deaf son and her parents, RIT/NTID retirees Paul and Sally Taylor, will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The popular KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival continues through Saturday, offering hundreds of performances and displays in downtown Rochester, including many showcasing the talents of RIT students, faculty, staff and Osher members.

RIT students, faculty, staff and Osher members are part of the 12-day lineup of more than 570 eclectic performances during the KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival. The festival is a celebration of the performing and visual arts in more than 30 venues in downtown Rochester, featuring world-renowned performers as well as up-and-comers.

RIT is among the top third “National Universities,” earning praise for its co-operative education program and its graduation rate for students from low-income families, as well as its business and engineering colleges, according to the 2020 edition of U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges.

Vanesa Chiodo, a second-year museum studies student, worked as a public programs intern over the summer at The Strong National Museum of Play. Although she was only going into her second year of classes, Chiodo was eager to get some real work experience under her belt.

Nearly 200 first-year students at RIT sampled a few of the many performing arts options available during orientation week, including dance, music, poetry and acting options.

RIT President David Munson this morning welcomed back the community, saying that the university is positioned for another exciting academic year.

Despite rainy weather that moved the annual Tiger Walk indoors, the newest students at RIT and their families today attended the fall convocation in the Gordon Field House, where they were told to welcome new experiences offered to them, pursue their dreams and change the world.

Scholars, students, deaf cultural studies and sign language teachers, artists, playwrights, filmmakers, poets, writers and historians will make their way to NTID in November for an international conference focusing on examining literary and artistic works about deaf experiences.

Cybercrime is costing the world trillions of dollars, and analysts say that there aren’t enough qualified professionals to prevent those attacks. To address this problem, RIT is creating the Global Cybersecurity Institute (GCI), aimed at meeting the demand for computing security and artificial intelligence professionals, while developing future technologies, protocols and human understanding needed to address the global cybersecurity crisis.
