Nominations for public service award now accepted
Nominations are now being accepted for the Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award. The honor recognizes exemplary public service by a current member of the faculty or staff.
The RIT award was created by Alfred Davis to commemorate the dedication of the four RIT presidents with whom he worked—Mark Ellingson, Paul Miller, Richard Rose and Albert Simone.
The award recognizes service over and above an individual’s regular institutional responsibilities, which provides a benefit beyond the university and has a significant impact on the Rochester community and beyond, as evidenced by the following:
- Evidence of extensive and diverse public service;
- Evidence that the individual is an important and participating member of the organization(s) served;
- Service as a board member or in a leadership role (e.g. president, etc.), and/or extensive service at the grassroots level;
- A sustained commitment and service to at least one organization over an extended period of time.
The service should not be connected to or an extension of the nominee's professional job at RIT.
Nominations and all supporting documentation are due by Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016. The award will be presented, along with the Bruce R. James Distinguished Public Service Award (presented to an RIT student for exemplary public service) at a ceremony on May 11, 2016.
An online nomination form and more information can be found at https://www.rit.edu/gcr/awards/fourpres.html.
Last year’s recipient was Sarah Brownell ’98 (mechanical engineering), a lecturer in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering. She received the award for her volunteer work over 20 years at Rochester’s St. Joseph House and with several community organizations in Haiti.
