One of first RIT microsystems Ph.D. grads to visit

One of the first RIT microsystems Ph.D. graduates, Anand Gopalan, talks about technology and global competition

Anand Gopalan

Anand Gopalan ’02, ’05, senior director of engineering for Rambus Inc., will be the featured presenter for the Dean’s Alumni Speaker Series at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 19, in Gleason Hall, room 2139.

He will discuss “Making a Career in Semiconductors: A Reality Check.” The semiconductor industry is changing rapidly with new advances in technology, particularly smaller complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor, or CMOS, scaling lower price margins for consumer electronics and company consolidations. Gopalan will discuss what these current trends mean for new entrants into the industry and the skills necessary to succeed today.

Gopalan joined Rambus Inc. in 2013 where he leads the worldwide analog mixed signal team in developing circuit technologies used in the mobile, gaming and consumer electronics space. Prior to this, he led the research and development and mixed-signal IP development teams at Kawasaki Microelectronics. He has also held individual contributor positions at Atmel and Avago Inc. He graduated from RIT with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 2002. He became one of the first microsystems Ph.D. students, completing his doctoral degree in microsystems in 2005.

The Dean’s Alumni Speaker Series is sponsored by the Kate Gleason College of Engineering and RIT’s Office of Development. Contact Donna Benier at dlbdar@rit.edu or 585-475-4045 for more information.
